Check your region and plan
At the September 3, 2026 check, the Xbox product page offered Mortal Shell II as a standalone purchase and did not display an “Included with Game Pass” badge. Open the store page while signed in. If it later says “Included with Game Pass,” your current plan and region qualify; if it only shows a purchase price, buy-to-own is the available option.
This is a dated availability answer, not a promise about the life of the catalog. Microsoft states that Game Pass titles, counts, features, and availability vary over time, region, plan, and platform. Read the Xbox product page correctly
At the verification date, Xbox showed the Standard edition at $49.99+ and the Devout Edition at $59.99+, both as purchase products. The page's “Included in” area referred to the edition relationship rather than a Game Pass subscription, and the capabilities listed single player, Xbox achievements, Xbox cloud saves, and Series X|S optimization. Source 1Mortal Shell II on XboxOpen source Prices are regional and can change; the important signal is whether the signed-in page replaces or supplements the price with an explicit Game Pass inclusion label.
Use this sequence:
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
- Set the correct store region.
- Open the Mortal Shell II product page, not a search snippet.
- Check for an explicit “Included with Game Pass” message and an install action covered by the plan.
- If only a price and purchase button appear, treat the game as a separate purchase.
- Confirm the selected edition before paying; Standard and Devout are different store products.
Do not use the footer's general Game Pass link as evidence that the current game is included. Xbox product pages link to platform services regardless of whether a particular title belongs to the catalog.
Game Pass, cloud saves, and cloud gaming are different
The Xbox page lists cloud saves as a capability. Source 1Mortal Shell II on XboxOpen source Cloud saves synchronize progress for the owning account; they do not grant a license to launch a game. A player still needs a purchase or a subscription entitlement that explicitly covers the title.
Cloud gaming is also a separate question. Game Pass plans can include cloud gaming for supported catalog titles, but a game being optimized for Series X|S or supporting cloud saves does not automatically make it streamable. The public Game Pass page describes cloud gaming as a plan benefit and warns that availability varies. Source 2Xbox Game Pass games catalogOpen source Look for a Play or Cloud action on the signed-in game entry rather than inferring it from the words “cloud saves.”
Xbox Play Anywhere is another distinct entitlement and is not listed as a capability on the cited Mortal Shell II page. Do not assume that buying the console version creates a Windows Store license. The official Steam release is a separate PC purchase unless a current Microsoft product page explicitly says otherwise.
Do not confuse it with the first game
The original Mortal Shell has appeared in subscription libraries in the past. That history does not establish the availability of Mortal Shell II. Match the Roman numeral, product art, and publisher listing before installing or buying.
Search results often shorten “Mortal Shell II” to “Mortal Shell 2,” and older subscription articles may rank above a current product page. Check the release date as well as the title: the sequel's Xbox listing gives August 20, 2026 and identifies Playstack as publisher and Cold Symmetry as developer. Source 1Mortal Shell II on XboxOpen source An article about the 2020 original, Enhanced Edition, Xbox One, or a past “leaving soon” list is not evidence for the sequel.
The sequel is optimized for Xbox Series X|S and the cited product page does not list Xbox One under “Play with.” That platform distinction matters when comparing a past subscription listing for the original game.
What the Xbox listing confirms
The current product page identifies an Xbox Series X|S release with single-player support and cloud saves. It is not an Xbox One listing. Subscription access can change independently of those platform features.
The store description also identifies a standalone sequel with a compact open world, eight possessable Shells, more than 80 dungeons, melee and ranged weapon upgrades, and stamina-free combat. Should you buy or wait?
Buy the Standard edition if you want the full game now and the displayed price fits your budget. Consider Devout only if the included Obsidian cosmetic set matters to you; use the Devout Edition comparison before paying the edition difference. Neither current purchase listing is evidence of future Game Pass inclusion.
Waiting is reasonable if subscription access is the deciding factor. Add the game to a Microsoft Store wishlist, monitor the official Game Pass catalog, and check Xbox announcements. Do not buy based on an unverified promise that the game is “coming soon.” A later catalog entry should include a date, supported platform, eligible plan, and official Xbox source.
If you buy and the title later enters Game Pass, the purchased license remains separate from subscription access under the platform's normal terms. This page does not predict discounts, refunds, or future catalog dates.
Troubleshooting a conflicting result
If a friend sees an inclusion badge and you do not, compare region, plan tier, platform, account sign-in, and the exact edition. Clear the store cache or try the web product page while signed in, but do not change the account region solely to force a listing. A promotion can also be account-specific or time-limited.
If a search engine says the game is included but Xbox asks for payment, trust the current signed-in Xbox checkout state and open the linked source's publication date. Conversely, if the Xbox page clearly shows inclusion for your plan, take a screenshot with the date and submit a correction so this page can be updated.
For a permanent purchase, compare the current edition details and regional price on Xbox. For other platforms, see the full release overview and PS5 details. This page is a dated catalog check, not a prediction about a future Game Pass addition.
Evidence required to change this status
This page should change from “not confirmed” only when an official Xbox catalog, Xbox Wire announcement, or signed-in Microsoft Store entitlement shows Mortal Shell II as included. A store discount, “games like Game Pass” search result, cloud-save capability, or the first Mortal Shell appearing in a catalog is not enough.
A valid update should record the announcement date, access date, eligible plan, supported platform, region limitations, and removal date if one is published. Archive the official link and a dated screenshot because subscription catalogs are live documents. If access is later removed, keep the historical entry but restore the present-tense answer to unavailable. That approach helps readers distinguish a genuine past inclusion from a current entitlement.
Recheck the signed-in catalog at the time of use; cached search snippets and unsourced release calendars are not entitlement evidence.
